This July, I will set off from Nebraska to study Spanish in Costa Rica. I plan to use this blog to share my stories as I prepare, while in San Jose and when I return.

Final Preparations
It is starting to sink in that I leave the US this Saturday morning. I went to the bank today because I called and someone had just sold some colones to the downtown Wells Fargo. I cannot believe my luck. If I got stuck exchanging at the airport, I have been told that I would pay more for each colon. Right now about 500 colones is the equivalent to one dollar. That makes the numbers sound kinda crazy when I look at the colones. Last night I bought a few things including a watch, rain jacket, compass, sunscreen and bug-spray. I will be taking a digital camera, but I bought 2 disposable cameras to use when I go to the rain forest or beach. I will not have my cell phone, but I will have access to my email. I am getting really anxious to leave. I have already decided that I won't bother buying sunglasses here. Instead, I will make that one of my first fun purchases in San Jose. My main concern this week is obviously packing. I'm trying to find a balance between packing things and planning to buy them there. The length of my trip is 4 weeks and I have easy access to a laundry machine. I appreciate any advice about packing or what you do when flying in order to enjoy the trip more. Thanks in advance.
